Iran NOC promotes Olympic spirit through winter festival
Tehran, Iran: The sixth Winter Sports Festival in the Islamic Republic of Iran was held in the ancient city of Hamedan from January 24-29.
It and attracted widespread support from the public, thanks to the initiative of the Sports Tourism Commission of the NOC of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The motto for the festival was “Sport, Tourism and Solidarity”.
In an adventurous move to promote sport and tourism and celebrate Olympic achievement and unity, the NOC Sports Commission invited all Olympic champions, and their families, from the 1948 London Olympic Games through to London 2012. Other distinguished guests included ambassadors from 30 embassies, representatives from local and provincial authorities and dignitaries from sport and tourism.
The five-day festival attracted much media coverage and set a good example of a joint venture between sport and tourism to establish solidarity and friendship through cultural, social and artistic programmes. Iran NOC believes strongly that such projects contribute significantly to the promotion of the Olympic movement and the Olympic spirit, and are in line with the aims of the OCA and IOC.
