Overview of Iran's Taekwondo Scientific and Technical Educational Center
One of the main components of the qualitative and quantitative development of any sport is having expert and experienced workforce who is familiar with up-to-date and related science and technicalities.
The close competition of athletes at grand levels has made officials pay more attention to proper and comprehensive planning and make the best use of resources to prolong the lifespan of championships. In this regard, the Taekwondo Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran embarked on establishing the Taekwondo Scientific and Technical Educational Center in 2005, with the aim of training coaches with high managerial, educational, scientific, and experiential capabilities.
Introduction of the Center:
A) Physical Space: with four classes, library, as well as other facilities and a 350 square-meter space, the Taekwondo Scientific and Technical Educational Center is right next to the Iranian Taekwondo Federation. B) Instructors: The facility now enjoys 35 accredited instructors who teach the theoretical and practical lessons.
C) Structure of the facility: the center has managerial, educational and research, financial and treasury, cultural, and office areas.
D) Technical Committee: to make proper use of experts' opinions in decision-making processes and to provide better services, the federation has established a Technical Committee made up of experts of the field.
Offered Majors:
1) Associate Course in Coaching
Requirements:
- High school Diploma,
- Sound Physical and Mental Health,
- General conditions to take courses,
- Practical experience in Taekwondo is a plus.
Positions to Attain:
- Assistant Coach
Professional Capabilities of Graduates:
- Teaching and Knowledge Transfer Capabilities,
- Proper Performance of techniques,
- Knowledge of National and International Sport Bodies and Organizations,
- Knowledge of Sport Injuries and First Aid,
- Capability to Teach Taekwondo Fights,
- Knowledge of Principals of Designing Practices,
- Knowledge of Educational Equipments,

- Knowledge of Rules and Regulations.
Length and Structure of the Course:
Divided into two categories of ‘training in the center’ and ‘training in the workplace’, the course is made up of 68-72 course units, taught in 1750-2100 hours, which totally takes 2-3 years.
2) Bachelor's Course in Coaching
Requirement:
- Previous Associate Degree,
- Sound Mental and Physical Health
- Red Belt in Taekwondo at the Minimum,
- Associate Degree Holders of Coaching and 1st Dan Holders is a plus,
- Associate Degree Holders of Non-Related Majors are required to Pass Additional Lessons.

Length and Structure of the Course:
Divided into two categories of ‘training in the center’ and ‘training in the workplace’, the course is made up of 65-70 course units, taught in 1700-2000 hours, which totally takes 2-3 years. These courses are offered in two ways, in semesters and as a whole package.
Number of Courses and Active Students:
As of February 2013, the center offers 5 package based courses with 200 male and female students and 3 semester based courses with 90 male and female students studying for the Associate Degree, and 46 male and female students studying for the Bachelor Degree.
Graduates:
A) The first gradates of the center were 35 people who graduated on January 21, 2012 in the presence of sport officials from the Sports and Youth Ministry, the facility's officials, masters and officials of the Federation.
B) The second group of graduates consisted of 43 students who graduated on June 21, 2012.
C) The third group of graduates consisted of 40 students who graduated on February 18, 2013.
