Torino 2013 World Masters Games
The Torino 2013 World Masters Games will take place in Turin, starting from August 2nd to August 11th 2013. It is a meeting based on competition, passion, friendship and fun open to everybody, especially to the people who consider sport as a way of life and being. The World Masters Games are the most important world sporting event for sportspeople over 35, involving a number of participants four times higher than a summer edition of the Olympic Games. No other event in the world is able to attract so many participants as the Master Games. The International Master Games Association (IMGA) is the organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Taking inspiration from the Olympic Charter, it organizes this event starting from the shared and winning concept that “sport is for everybody”. The Masters Games are a competition open to everybody, including disabled athletes with specific competitions. The tradition of paralympic sports in Turin, base of important sport associations linked to CIP (Comitato Paralimpico Italiano), guarantees an effective meeting between all the world athletes. The participants are men and women over 35 who will compete in different sports: from Athletics to Football (Soccer), from Basket to Archery, just to mention a few of them. It is not a competition between nations but between people, although it is possible to form teams with athletes of different nationality. There are several and fascinating competition: 30 core sports, divided in principal and optional. The optional sports are, just to mention the most important, Tennis, Golf, and Futsal (Soccer with 5 players). Taekwondo competitions will take place on 8-9 August. The weight categories for Kyorugi are: Male – Kg. 58, 68, 80, 80+ Female – Kg. 49, 57, 67, 67+ Poomsae (Form): individual. The age categories are: Kyorugi (Kombat): 35+, 45+. Men and Women Poomsae (Form), individual: 35+, 41+, 51+, 61+. The age is determined at 31 December 2013.
