Dr. Choue's Message



Dear Council Members and Presidents and Secretaries General of MNAs,
I wish to extend my appreciation to each of you for your hard work for the betterment of taekwondo and the WTF.
I also wish to express my sincere thanks to you for sending your athletes, coaches and officials to Taipei City, Chinese Taipei for the WTF qualification tournament for the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games and the 10th WTF World Junior Taekwondo Championships.
The two WTF-promoted taekwondo events were a resounding success for good reasons. The two events drew the largest number of athletes and countries. The WTF YOG Qualification Tournament drew 366 athletes from a record 100 countries and the 10th World Junior Championships attracted 793 athletes from a record 107 countries.
Through the two-day qualification event, a total of 39 countries earned at least one qualification place for the taekwondo competition at the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games, showing a good distribution of tickets among WTF MNAs. I wish to congratulate each of the MNAs, which took home qualification tickets.
The opening ceremony, which took place at the Taipei Arena, drew about 10,000 spectators, showing the high popularity of taekwondo in Chinese Taipei.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your support of and active participation in the upcoming 5th WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships to be held in Moscow, Russia on June 20-21, 2014 in the lead up to the International Paralympic Committee Governing Board’s final decision on the program for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics to be made in Berlin on October 6-7, 2014. The invitation and outline for the Championships will be sent out shortly.
Once again, I wish to appreciate you for your continued support for the further development of taekwondo and the WTF.
