President's Message: 5th WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships
I would like to send my warm greetings and sincere thanks to the entire taekwondo families around the world for the success of the 5th WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships held in Moscow, Russia on June 21-22, 2014.
I am proud to inform you that this Championships saw participation of 111 athletes from a total of 37 countries from all five continents, greatest ever in the history of the World Para-Taekwondo Championships of the WTF.
Since the creation of the Para-Taekwondo Committee and inauguration of the WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships, the WTF has ceaselessly worked on the development and improvement of para-taekwondo. In particular, Standing Procedure was legislated and biomechanical researches were conducted to prepare para-taekwondo classification code in strict compliance of International Paralympic Committee. Poomsae event for athletes with intellectual disability was also added to Kyorugi event for athletes with upper limb amputation in the Championships in Moscow this year.
On the other hand, the WTF has strengthened its cooperation with international sports organizations for the people with various disabilities such as CPISRA, INAS, IBSA, IWAS and ICSD by signing MoU.
With these efforts and great success of 5th WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships, our dream of being part of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games will be continued and finally realized.
I look forward to your continuous cooperation and support to achieve our common goal. I once again thank you all for continued support and especially thank all member national associations that participated in the 5th WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships.
