Taekwondo and Asian Games from 1986 to 2014
Taekwondo entered the program of Asian Games when Seoul hosted this event in 1986. In the next edition, however, Taekwondo was omitted from Asian Games schedule.
From 12th edition of Asian Games, Taekwondo became a fixed sport in Asian Games program.
After 6 editions of this significant event since Taekwondo was included in this event, South Korea is the first medal winner country with 47 Gold, 9 Silver and 4 Bronze medals in the male and females categories.
Chinese Taipei is the second country with 10 Gold, 7 Silver and 11 Bronze medals while Iran has the third standing with 8 Gold, 9 Silver and 15 Bronze medals.
17th Asian Games will hold Taekwondo competitions from 30 Sep. to 4 Oct. 2014. The female representatives of Iran in this event are: Sousan Hajipour, Samaneh Sheshpari, Kimia Alizadeh, Shokraneh Izadi, Fatemeh Rohani and Akram Khodabandeh And the male representatives of Iran are: FarzanAshourzadeh, Behnam Asbaghi, Masoud Hajizavareh, Mahdi Khodabakhshi, Yousef Karami and Sajad Mardani.
Iran succeeded in winning 3 Gold medals and 1 Bronze medal in the male category, and 2 Silver medals and 3 Bronze medals in the female category in the last Asian Games, which was held in Guangzhou, China.
