One-year suspension for Cuban athlete

As MasTKD informed yesterday morning, Cuban athlete Glenhis Hernandez was suspended for one year when it was determined she made an offensive sign showing her disagreement on the podium when she got the silver medal.

The Cuban Glenhis Hernandez could be suspended with a penalty of up to two years due to the offensive sign she made during the medal award ceremony in her weight category on Monday November 17, 2014 at the Central American Games and the Caribbean Games, where she lost against Mexican Maria Espinoza.
The article published by MasTKD arose much controversy and discomfort in the Cuban team, who claimed that her action was due to a finger injury.
Amid the chaos arisen in the World Trade Center Veracruz, MasTKD interviewed the World Champion, who showed obvious annoyance during the interview and was wearing a bandage on her right hand trying to show that her action was due to an injury. The report presented by the physician responsible for the Cuban delegation, Dr. Pavel Jorge Pino, also stated that the athlete actually had an injury that prevented her to flex the middle finger.
Given the speculation that MasTKD had tried to damage the athlete´s reputation by publishing something that was not true, the PATU itself realized that the sign on the podium was made with the left hand and not with the right hand where the Cuban medical staff put the bandage.
As the evidence was obvious, the Pan American Taekwondo Union immediately suspended for one year the Cuban athlete Glenhis Hernandez, from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015, a period that would leave her out of the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games, but with the possibility of participating in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
