Canada Para-Taekwondo Open
Toronto hosted the first Para-taekwondo championships since the announcement of the sport's successful inclusion in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games sports program this weekend as the Canada Para-Taekwondo Open attracted kyorugi and poomsae athletes from across the country. The championships, held on the occasion of the Canada Taekwondo Open, began on Friday 13 February with a P20 poomsae match for intellectually disabled athletes. Classification of the kyorugi athletes took place the following day on Saturday 14 February before the kyorugi exhibition matches got underway on Sunday 15 February. World rankings in kyorugi were introduced at the tournament for the very first time with the tournament being assigned a G1 ranking. All future WTF recognized Para-taekwondo championships will now be assigned a world ranking grade as part of the WTF's commitment to developing the sport and guaranteeing the highest level of competition at Tokyo 2020.
