Dates of Continental Qualification Tournaments
World Taekwondo Federation issued the dates and places of Continental Qualification Tournaments for achieving quota of Rio 2016 Olympic Games according to the following schedule:
Europen Qualification Tournament for Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Istanbul, Turkey
January 16-17
African Qualification Tournament for Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Agadir, Morocco
February 2-4
Oceania Qualification Tournament for Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
February 27
Pan Am Qualification Tournament for Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Mazatlan, Mexico
March 10-11
Asian Qualification Tournament for Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Manila, Philippines
April 19-20
As only 2 months is left until NOCs receive their direct Olympic quota based on the athletes’ Olympic ranking, countries are getting ready for participation in Continental Qualification Tournaments.
MNAs that have already received 2 direct quotas in the male and female categories are not allowed to take part in Continental Qualification Tournaments.
Since Iran has 4 male athletes with top ranking who will hopefully obtain direct quota, only the female team is focused on participating in Asian Qualification Tournament which will be held in Manila, Philippines.
Finally, 48 athletes receive direct quota through ranking, 72 will enter Olympic Games by participation in Continental Qualification Games and the remaining 8 quota will go to athletes of the host country and athletes invited by wildcard.
