4 Olympic Quotas for Iranian Men in 3 Weight Categories
After 2015 Final GP, hosted by Mexico, 4 Iranian male athletes were placed in the top 6 ranks of their Olympic weight categories and succeeded in winning 3 Olympic quotas for Iran.
Farzan Ashourzadeh, Mahdi Khodabakhshi, Masoud Hajizavareh and Sajjad Mardani are 4 eligible Iranian athletes for receiving direct quota of the Olympic Games. As each country can have 1 representative in each weight category in 2016 Olympic Games, between Mahdi Khodabakhshi and Masoud Hajizavareh only Mahdi Khodabakhshi can enter the Olympic Games in -80 kg.
Totally 24 quotas of the Olympic Games were distributed among 16 countries in the male category. Iran and South Korea gained 3 quotas each. Germany, Mexico, Belgium and Russia achieved 2 quotas. England, Uzbekistan, Portugal, Spain, Moldova, France, Gabon, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Ivory Coast won 1 quota.
Countries that gained less than 2 quotas in the male category can participate in the Qualification Tournament.
Bijan Moghanlou led the male National team as head coach. Mahdi Bibak and Merdad Yousefi accompanied the team as coaches.
In the female category, as Iranian athletes could not gain direct quota through ranking system, they will try their chance in the Qualification Tournament that will be held in Philippines in May 2016.
