Russia Reigned in 2016 Dutch Open with 8 Gold Medals
Russia clearly dominated the 43rd edition of the Dutch Open after clinching no less than 8 out of 16 Senior titles in Eindhoven this weekend, taking the top of the medal count with Turkey as its closest follower with a total of 3 gold medals.
The other 5 titles were awarded to Spain, Great Britain, Serbia, Belgium and Netherlands.
The 8 golden athletes for the Russian team were Igumenova, who climbed to the top of the Women’s -49 kg podium after beating her compatriot Antipenko by 5-1 in the big final; Gaun, who reigned in Men’s -80 kg after defeating British Samsun by 7-4 in the gold medal match; Larin, who proved to be the strongest in the Men’s -87 kg division after getting rid of Turkish Yuksel by 2-0 in the last match of the draw; Kudashova, who shone in Women’s -53 kg after edging her team mate Kim by 17-8; Artomonov, who beat yet another fellow compatriot Gaponyuk by 2-1 in the Men’s -54 kg final; Lupeta, who tasted glory in Men’s -63 kg after getting rid of Russian Irgaliev by 3-2; Ustaev, who dominated the Men’s -74 kg after proving to be stronger than Georgiev from Bulgaria by 10-1; and Kirishenko, who edged no other than world champion Shokin from Uzbekistan in the Men’s +87 kg final by 4-3 thanks to a golden point.
