World Taekwondo plans to upgrade athletes' uniform
Dec 2017-- The head of the international taekwondo governing body said Tuesday the organization is planning to change the design of the sport's uniform at its competitions.
A typical taekwondo uniform, also called "dobok" in Korean, has white pants and a shirt with a black V-neck collar. World Taekwondo (WT) President Choue Chung-won said officials are discussing an upgrade of the uniform for athletes' benefits. "We feel the need to improve the taekwondo uniform," Choue said in a press conference at the WT headquarters in Seoul. "We heard some athletes complain that the uniform isn't warm enough. We are thinking of using high-tech materials."
Choue said nothing has been confirmed at this moment about the uniform's fabric or design, but he stressed that the new uniform must contain classic characteristics of the sport. "Some people say that the uniform should have more colors, but that's not going to happen," he said. "Even if the design changes, we'll keep that white color and black V-neck collar, so that everyone can recognize taekwondo."
The WT plans to complete the standard design of the new uniform next month and distribute the guidelines to authorized equipment manufacturers next year. Choue said the new taekwondo uniform could be seen as early as in April 2018 at the World Junior Taekwondo Championships in Hammamet, Tunisia.
