A total of 173.2 billion won budget for Taekwondo development
through 2022
June 2018—according to "Yonhapnews", The sports ministry of Korea will provide 17.8 billion won ($16.4 million) of the budget this year to develop Taekwondo.
The sports ministry, in conjunction with four taekwondo organizations (World Taekwondo, Korea Taekwondo Association, "Kukkiwon" and Taekwondo Promotion Foundation), announced strategies and policy goals to develop taekwondo.
the government will provide 17.8 billion won ($16.4 million) of the budget this year, and the number will increase by an average of 24 percent annually over the next five years, for a total of 173.2 billion won through 2022.
And to develop taekwondo into cultural content, the ministry plans to support production of performances, TV dramas based on the martial art.
The ministry's plans also include the staging of the annual "Taekwondo Leaders' Forum," which will bring together taekwondo masters from around the world.
Elsewhere, South Korea will look to expand its taekwondo exchanges with North Korea and establish a steady communication channel.
The ministry said it will look for ways to make taekwondo a professional sport, with financial independence ensured through corporate sponsorships and broadcasting rights fees, and launch a new channel called "Internet Taekwondo TV," which will carry live or taped coverage of taekwondo matches and deliver taekwondo-related news.
