Grand master Kyung-Myung Lee passes away
The pioneer of Austrian taekwondo, Grand Master Kyung-Myung Lee, died on the 10th of January, 2013.
He was struggling against colon cancer for years and ended up finally his life with 74 years old. He was born in busan, Korea, 1939. And graduated from Yeon-Se University in philosophy.
He has been considered one of the witnesses of taekwondo development in Europe, especially in Austria. In the late 1960s, he started to have contacts with Europe and he engaged in the teaching of taekwondo in Inns burg from the year 1970, by the arrangement (or mediation) of the Master, Jae-Hwa Kwon who was at that time living in Germany.
Since then, Master Lee leaded in the expansion of taekwondo through all over of european countries having his basement in Austria. He also got involved deeply in the establishment of European Taekwondo Union in 1976, and being the first technical director of the organization, contributed a lot in the development of european taekwondo.
During about thirty years he promoted taekwondo in Austria and Poland. In the late of 1990s, he returned to Korea after having put all his effort and his life for the growth of taekwondo and played an important rule, being the vice-secretary general of WTF, in the administration of taekwondo world. Also he wrote many articles in the specialized magazine of taekwondo, trying to give a good guideline for the development of our sport. Furthermore, he left forty books about the history of taekwondo after having devoted his time to the research of history of taekwondo.
Master Lee, was kind and modest person, so that a lot of people like him with high respect. The mortuary is set in Kangnam Severance Hospital in Seoul and his coffin will be borne out at 6am of the day 12. And his body will be buried in Busan, his home town.
